What follows is a wide selection of online projects I’ve created independently, unless otherwise noted. More information can be found on my résumé, which is available by request.

Status: Current (Oct 2006 &ndash present)
Position: Online Manager/Developer
I began work on the Daily Californian in October 2006, and was promoted to Online Manager in December 2006—a position that allows me to both write code and encourage my team. I currently lead the Online Team in recreating the backend such that all members of the Daily Cal staff can feel comfortable creating and updating online content. (The Daily Cal gets over 60,000 page accesses per day, and is currently working on PHP/MySQL code dating back to August 1999—it’s quite a project!) This project introduced me to AJAX development, particularly with Prototype and Script.aculo.us.
To be clear, I did not design or code the current front page; most of my work has been behind the scenes. If you are interested in what I did, please contact me and I can give you a walkthrough.
General Manager Diane Rames has generously offered to talk about my work at the Daily Cal. Her contact information is on my résumé, which is still available by request.

Status: Current (Sept 2005 – present)
Position: Designer, developer, webmaster, co-director, board member
The DeCal Program is a program at UC Berkeley that allows students to offer democratically-led courses, with both class leader and class participants receiving academic credit.
I joined the DeCal Program in September 2005, and quickly worked on redesigning and extending the website. The site requires an extensive knowledge of PHP and MySQL design to accommodate giving each individual course leader permission to access his or her class(es), and allowing DeCal Board members to add, delete, and manage courses and course leaders.
As of Spring 2007, I am leaving my role as webmaster to become one of DeCal’s co-directors, but still keep a watchful eye over our online presence.

In December 2006 the Emeryville Chamber of Commerce hired me to create a full website for their new Chamber newspaper, the Emeryville Connection. The website incorporates a full custom content management system, including some AJAX features in the administration panel. More details will follow as the website launches!

Position: Designer, developer
In late December 2006, I worked with car collector Jerry Haussler to create an online storefront for his collection of vintage car badges. This site is heavy with PHP/MySQL/AJAX features to ensure that Mr. Haussler’s changing inventory would remain manageable online.
Address: http://www.xanga.com/
Status: On hiatus (active September 2004 – December 2006)
Position: Freelance advertising designer and Flash programmer
NYC-based weblogging company Xanga.com offered me advertising design work beginning in 2004. During this time, I developed a skinnable, postable viral media player for use on their site, and produced a variety of advertising campaigns for major national brands and companies (such as Disney, Paramount, Big Red, and many others). I did most of my development in Macromedia Flash 8 and Adobe Photoshop CS2.
If you would like to see samples of the advertising and other projects I created for Xanga, ask me for my résumé.

Status: Project completed (active Feb 2006 – Jul 2006)
Position: Co-founder, game co-designer, web designer
Outbreak: The Game is a “Serious game” specification I co-authored with Stanford Master’s student Angel Inokon. I designed and created this identity site to go with the proposal.
We presented the game at 060606, a new media colloquium hosted by Berkeley” Center for New Media, where it won a $5,000 grant offered by Bears Breaking Boundaries. At that point, the game also attracted attention from renowned game industry blog GameSetWatch. The project culminated in Angel’s Master’s thesis project, for which we commissioned concept art with our newfound resources.
The game is currently awaiting private development.
